This Plan is updated to reflect M.G.L. c. 71, 37O as amended by Sections 72 ñ 74 of Chapter 38 of the Acts of 2013, which changed the definition of “perpetrator” to include “a member of a school staff, including, but not limited to, an educator, administrator, school nurse, cafeteria worker, custodian, bus driver, athletic coach, advisor to an extracurricular activity or paraprofessional.” The amendment also made the plan applicable to school staff, including but not limited to, the individuals listed in the amended perpetrator definition. The brochures and handbooks are in the process of being updated.

This plan was developed by the P.A.U.S.E. committee, representative of the North Reading Public Schools and School Community, and written by the sub-committee members: Lisa Barnard, Cathy Carmody, Claudia Brown Patrick Daly, Kristine Davis, Elizabeth Emnett, Officer Thomas Hatch, Tabitha Heidorn, Desma Kuras, AJ Loprete, Lorraine McBride, Joline Pepper, Diane Vercammen, and Kathleen Willis.

Our meetings for the 2016-17 school year are 9/29, 10/20, 11/10, 12/15, 1/19, 2/16, 3/16, 4/27, 5/18, and 6/1.  Our first meeting is Thursday, September 29th.  All meetings are from 3:30pm-4:30pm at the middle school/high school library/media center classroom.

Our P.A.U.S.E. group meets monthly throughout the school year to discuss the social and emotional needs of the students and school community of North Reading. Parents, Community Organizations, Youth Groups, Safety and Law Enforcement, and teachers and administrators from the North Reading Public Schools participate to discuss the challenges that our students face and work to create opportunities for the youth in our community. P.A.U.S.E. is an active participant in the Middlesex Partnership for Youth and our group is well represented at MPY State Conferences such as the School Safety Summit. In recent years we have addressed such issues as Bullying Prevention and Intervention, Improving the School Culture and Climate, Diversity, LGBT rights, and much more!


Our wellness committee is co-charied by Patrick Daly, Assistant Superintendent, and Cynthia Conant, Director of Pupil Personnel.  We have created our district wellness plan and continuously work with the commnity and schools to promote health and wellness.  Our goals are in the following areas:

Our wellness committee meets monthly in a joint committee with the P.A.U.S.E. committee to address social, emotional, and all wellness realted needs of our students.  Our meetings for the 2015-16 school year are 10/1, 11/5, 12/10, 1/21, 2/25, 3/24, 4/28, 5/25, 6/16.  Our first meeting is Thursday, October 1st.
