Condemning Anti-Asian Violence

Dear North Reading Public Schools Community,

I am writing this evening to address the unfortunate incidents of Anti-Asian violence and harassment that have occurred in recent months. This week's horrific events in Atlanta are upsetting and are only the most recent example of these senseless acts.

According to the organization Stop AAPI Hate there have been over 500 reported incidents of violence and discrimination against Asian Americans in just the first two months of 2021.

The North Reading Public Schools condemns all forms of violence and bigotry and offers our support to our Asian students, families, and staff. We are committed to taking a stand and actively promoting ways to help others experiencing these crimes.

Please see the suggestions from Stop AAPI Hate as considerations for those experiencing or witnessing hate. I am also sharing the National Association of School Psychologists: Tips for Parents and Teachers in talking to children about violence which can be found here.

If anyone in our school community is in need of support please contact your school counselors or administrators at any time. If you are a witness to or have experienced any form of discrimination be sure to report this to our Title IX Coordinators, Mr. Sean Killeen and Ms. Cynthia Conant, whose contact information can be found here.

Together we can take the actions to strengthen our community and model the behaviors in our schools and town that will make our world a better place.

Be well,

Dr. Daly
