Guidance Counselor Appointments

Power Block Appointments

During the first week or two of each school year, the guidance counselors will not pre-schedule power block appointments because we are typically working with students who have questions about their class schedules.  During this time period, students can simply seek out their counselor for assitance.

After the first week or two of each school year, students can sign up for a power block appointment by using their counselor's appointment calendar.  A link for each counselor's appointment calendar can be found on the right side of the Guidance Department's website under "News and Annoucements."  Students should select "Scheduling an Appointment with your Guidance Counselor" and then scroll down to find the link for their guidance counselor's appointment calendar.  Students may also stop by the guidance office and schedule an appointment using the tablet in the waiting area of the office.

General Information

The objective for the Guidance Department at the secondary level is to assist the independent growth of the adolescent toward adulthood by offering support in the areas of physical, social, emotional, educational, and career development. This objective is worked toward by providing counseling for students who may have issues arise during the school year, by providing college and career counseling, and by establishing programming that provides students and parents/guardians with information regarding the aforementioned areas of development.

All matters discussed with counselors are kept confidential unless the student requests or consents to the inclusion of another person or other people, legal requirements demand that information be revealed or disclosure is required to prevent clear and imminent danger to the student or others. Examples of parties to which information may have to be disclosed include, but are not limited to, the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s), school administrators, counselors  and the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families. In general, the counselors recognize that their primary obligation for confidentiality is to the student, but they work to balance this obligation with an understanding of the legal and inherent rights of parent(s)/guardian(s) to be the guiding voice in their children’s lives.
