Family Update

Dear Members of the J. Turner Hood School Community:

It is hard to believe that the end of the school year is approaching. The year’s end always brings with it a tremendous sense of accomplishment.  So many things have been accomplished this year!  As the 2022-2023 school year draws to a close, on behalf of our entire staff, I would like to say thank you to our wonderful parents and families for their help during this successful academic year.

This update is meant to share some important items as we approach the end of the year.

This Thursday- Open House Reminder: We will be hosting our annual open house this Thursday, June 1st. Please stop by and visit your students' classroom and check out what our learners have been engaged in.  Open House will begin at  5pm and conclude at 6:30.. We do have our eye on the high temperatures for the evening and may make adjustments as necessary.  Carpooling is encouraged as parking does present a challenge for this event.

Parent Information Event: As a school community we have worked on several internal goals focused on social-emotional learning, school culture, belonging, and shared expectations. We have scheduled a virtual parent informational session as follows:

Wednesday, June 7 · 4:00 – 4:30pm

It is our plan to share updates to our current practices, introduce several new initiatives and answer any questions for our school community. This will be recorded and available to those that can not attend.

Spring Concert: June 5th. Please see attached.

Field Day: Our Field Day is scheduled for June 14th – Our students are excited and we are fortunate to have many volunteers to support this event. With that noted, please feel free to stop by the event on the scheduled day. The festivities take place for the majority of the school day on the back field. Access to the building is limited to students, staff and assigned volunteers but we would love to see everyone on this day that culminates with our annual grade 5 challenge at 1:30.

Sunscreen Reminder- Please apply sunscreen to your child on the morning of field day. Do not send sunscreen with your child. Staff is not able to apply sunscreen and unfortunately, students can not apply themselves.

As noted, Field Day is an open format so if you stop by you are welcome to apply sunscreen to your child only.

Move on/  Move Up Day: Our tradition of hosting a move on day for our fifth graders will continue in conjunction with our annual move up day. These events will be held on our last day of School which is June 20th.  We are looking forward to celebrating our grade 5 students as they move on to their next chapters while simultaneously introducing our remaining students to their new teachers and classmates.

School Events: Please stay updated regarding school events (We have so many exciting things happening) by accessing the Hood School calendar. Our school website is a great resource. We hope that you will find the information that is posted on our website to be
valuable to you and your children. Please check our site often as there are always things going on. Please click on the calendar tab in order to view a monthly school calendar. We have many field trips and grade level activities noted in this electronic location.
