Move On Day

Move-On Day

Dear Families,

Move-on day will occur on June 26th  this year for all students. Move-On Day is an event that we created in order to alleviate anxiety for students. This opportunity will give students a chance to see what their classroom environment will feel like when they enter in the fall. This opportunity will provide a sense of who your child’s teacher is and who their classmates and new friends will be.

Students will be well-prepared during the morning (and in the afternoon for the pm kindergarteners) within their current classrooms. They will have a class discussion about the possibilities for next year, the potential disappointment if their best friend is not in their class and how to handle that, the potential for meeting new friends, the anticipation of meeting their new teacher and expectations around what their thoughts are for next year.  Their current teachers have been rehearsing for over a month the endless possibilities of what might come up and they are well prepared for handling this discussion in a positive, enthusiastic way in the intimate setting of their own familiar classroom environment.

When it is time to “Move-On”, kindergarten students will be accompanied by familiar adults to their new environment.  In fact, all students will be escorted to their new classrooms by adults familiar to all children. Many of our staff members including our learning specialists, guidance counselor, our art teacher, music teacher and paraprofessionals will also be in an out of classrooms to facilitate the process. We have no doubt that this will be a positive experience for all students.

We are also aware that parents will be anxious. We ask that all parents and guardians remain at home. Your child will be coming home with a greeting letter from his/ her new teacher.  Hopefully, in that letter most of your questions will be answered.
