October Update

November 2, 2022

It is hard to believe that October has come to a close.

It was nice to see so many families at our open house and spend time catching up and hearing about summer and the transition back to school. Our PA hosted a great Welcome Back Social for our students and a well-attended trivia night for our families. We are so fortunate to have this dedicated group working with our students. Mrs. Liekweg (PA School Representative) has been able to join me and attend our recent PA meetings. We have been very excited to see so many parents in attendance.  The varied talents and ideas are always appreciated.

We have practiced and continue to practice our different safety drills (fire, bus evacuation, etc.) and the students are doing a great job! Please be sure to talk with your child about what they learned to do in these emergency situations. Our school is preparing students in developmentally-appropriate ways about the meaning and importance of these drills. One of the first areas we work on with students involves teaching the expectations of the J. T. Hood School. In each area of the school, we have developed expectations teaching children how to Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful. With this being noted, Detective Lucci, our School Resource Officer, Dr. Mansfield, our School Psychologist, and I presented on this topic recently to our students. Our goal was simply to inform our students of what it is like to be a safe student at the Hood School who is available to help you when experiencing difficulty.

School Events: Please remember to check the J. Turner Hood School calendar linked directly on our website. This calendar is the go-to for all Hood School activities and events.

Twitter: Please follow the J. Turner Hood Twitter account at: https://twitter.com/jthoodelemen. This Twitter handle provides followers with frequent updates of “Hound Dog Happenings” and retweets of other professionals within our community’s tweets.

Art Room Request: Mrs. Pintzopooulos, our amazing art teacher is looking for button-down shirt donations from the school community. We have placed a donation bin in the lobby. Any help is appreciated!

Justyna’s Corner: This month I wanted to highlight Justyna’s  Corner in our library. Justyna's family is keeping her memory alive by raising and donating hundreds of new books to the Hood School. "Justyna's Book Garden" is decorated with her  favorite flower (sunflowers) and blue butterflies. Mrs. Danis notes “ I am so grateful for all the lovely books that our friends can enjoy! Justyna’s  love of books is definitely in full bloom at the Hood.” We will be moving the location within the space and adding an additional 200 books that were received as donations. A special thank you to Mrs. Gorman and her family for allowing us to be part honoring Justyna’s legacy.

STEAM Night: We are looking forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming STEAM Night on November 4th!
