August 29 Update

August 29, 2020

Dear Members of the J. Turner Hood School Community:

The district and the school are working hard to plan for a safe reopening of school. We are getting closer to our opening and I will continue to keep you up to date as information comes my way. We have completed all of our cohort assignments and are putting the finishing touches on our arrival and dismissal plans.

It would be beneficial if you haven’t already done so, to review the information on our Superintendent’s website. Located at this site is some very detailed information on cohort placements and schedules.

I also have exciting news! Families of students in grades 1 through 5 will be informed of placements on Monday at 5 pm via Blackboard. Kindergarten families have until September 1st to make some selections, so I will notify those families of placements September 2nd at 5 pm.

School Visits- I am currently in the process of working on student only visits to the school. These will occur on or around September 14th. More details to follow.

Staffing changes for this year include welcoming Mrs. Gravallese as a kindergarten classroom teacher, Ms. Moscariello as a grade 4 classroom teacher, Mrs. Gauvin as a grade 3 classroom teacher and  Mrs. Danis as a general paraprofessional.

We have several new employees at the J. Turner Hood School. These include:

Mrs.  Mitrano BCBA, Special Education

Mrs.  Blake Special Education Reading Specialist

Mrs. Daley- Kindergarten Paraprofessional  General

Mrs. Vitale- Inclusion Preprofessional

Ms.  Dilorenzo- Inclusion Paraprofessional

Mrs.  DiCato Pre-School Teacher

Mrs. Ellakkis Pre School Paraprofessional

Lastly, we are excited to continue our work with Merrimack College by adding Ms. O’Brien as Merrimack Fellow at our school.

Supply Lists- The grade level supply lists  are located on our school website and the grade 4 list has been added.

Parent’s Association- Our amazing Hood School Parent’s Association has been hard at work to make our transition back to school a positive one.  During their most recent meeting, the group focused on Hound Dog pride. Our school community will see many exciting things this year throughout our building, but their commitment to our students will focus on building community and supporting our students and professionals. The Parents Association will be supplying Chromebook cases and mask lanyards for all of our students this year. I have seen the proofs and these customized items will be cherished for sure.

Procedural change: In following CDC guidelines and making sure that we are providing a socially distant environment, our school is closed to walk-ins. If you would like to make an appointment to drop off any items or to reach out to any staff members, please do so by calling 978-664-7817 X0.

Take Care,

Mr. Glen McKay

Principal
