Report Card Update

June 5, 2020

Dear North Reading Elementary School Families:

As you are aware, the elementary schools in North Reading have moved to a pass-fail grading system during the COVID-19 closure. As we prepare for the end of the trimester, the elementary schools will use the traditional report card to document students’ participation during the remote learning period.  That being said, students will receive a pass or fail for all performance grades and plus, check, minus, or N/A for skills reviewed and practiced during the final trimester.   Students who have not completed/submitted assignments or activities for an identified skill will receive a minus.

Effort will be one skill in all areas that will reflect your students’ level of engagement and participation during the remote learning experience.  We appreciate and value the time and effort invested to support remote learning. Students have worked hard and we want our students to remain engaged throughout the final weeks of June.

Art, Music, and Physical Education will receive one performance skill grade that will reflect the student’s effort and participation.  The physical education effort grade will be noted under “Demonstrates appropriate movement forms”. We believe Art, Music, and Physical Education are essential to every student’s educational day.  We value the student’s effort to engage and experience the specials as part of the remote learning experience.

As a reminder, hard copy report cards will not be sent on the last day of school.  Parents/guardians have received an email with the details of setting up and accessing the parent portal to see your child(ren)’s report card.  A reminder email will be sent this afternoon, please complete this process ASAP.  A delayed response may prevent your ability to access your child’s report card. Please follow the instructions to set up your account and notify us of any issues you may encounter.  Grades will not be available for viewing until school has ended on the last day (June 19, 2020).

Please feel free to contact your school's principal with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Mr. Sean Killeen, L. D. Batchelder Elementary Principal

Mrs. Christine Molle, E. Ethel Little School Principal
