School Council

September 19, 2016

Dear Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Susanne Rech who has  served a two year term on the J. Turner Hood School Council. I want to recognize and applaud her for her hard work and dedication to our school.

A school council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members. Each school in the Commonwealth is required to establish a school council pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71, Section 59C.

I, as the Principal of the J. Turner Hood School, am responsible for the formation of a new school council.

What is a School Council?

In Massachusetts, School Councils assist principals by reviewing the school building budget and developing the school improvement plan. Councils may also take on other responsibilities, including policymaking. Councils' school improvement plans are submitted to the local school committee for review and approval.

If you are interested in running as a parent representative on the J. Turner Hood School Council please send me an email indicating your interest no later than September 21, 2016.

Please note that we have one open seat. If there should be more than one volunteer and election will be conducted at Back to School night on September 22, 2016.

Parent, community, and teacher representatives serve a two-year term.

Sincerely,

Glen S. McKay, Principal
