SRR Update

I am writing to you today as a means to update you on an updated school-wide initiative that has been formally implemented this school year. We are well on our way to accomplishing this goal but I think that it is important to keep you updated regarding this practice as well as to keep you abreast regarding some of our security protocols simultaneously. As you are well aware we have established a school wide set of expectations that are shared across classroom and settings here at the school. We frequently refer to these as our “SRR Behaviors or Expectations”

What are SRR Behaviors?”

Be Safe

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

This framework has been in place for approximately ten years and was received with high acclaim as means to calibrate our expectations across the schools, grade levels and teachers. This year we have set the goal of having school wide community buildings meetings at an increased frequency. These meetings are designed based on the belief that we can build community and create a mutual understanding of our expectations while ensuring our student population that they are supported in a structured safe learning environment.

  • Our first school wide meeting was held early in September and provided our students with an introduction to all of the new staff members as well as introduction/ refresher of our school wide framework.
  • Our second school wide meeting was held in October and focused on respectful school culture.
  • Our third school wide meeting was held early in November and focused on safe school culture.

Next up: A responsible school culture.

Our most recent meeting focused on a safe school culture and we had two very special guests. Our school resource officer, Detective Lucci and our District wide ALICE expert, Mr. Michael Maloney were on hand to engage our students.

Officer Lucci shared an amazing lesson on stranger danger while Mr. Maloney conducted a refresher of our school safety protocols.

Please be reminded:  The following are set procedures to follow at the J. Turner Hood Elementary School for the 2018- 2019 School Year;

I would like to remind all families of the following procedures as they relate to visits to the school. Our Hood School front doors are locked and access for to the building will only be obtained by pressing the front door buzzer and then waiting for the office staffs’ identification of the visitor/student via camera.

  • Sign in Log- We appreciate you electronically signing in at the office when you visit. If you have an appointment with the teacher or classroom visit, please let the office staff know and we will be glad to notify them of your arrival. Please always wear a visitors badge in the building. These are available in the main office.
  • Please do not visit your child’s classroom unless you have a scheduled appointment with the classroom teacher. Unscheduled visits are very disruptive to the classroom teacher and to student learning.
  • If you are dropping off a lunch, a forgotten item or materials/supplies for the class/teacher, please leave it with the office secretary.  We will make sure it gets to the right place.
